Soldiers for Jesus Event Recap blog:
On Saturday, July 1 st , I had the pleasure of taking my radio show EZ SportsTalk 360 out to San Diego to support The Helen Bernardy Center for Medically Fragile Children. As part of Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, the center is a skilled nursing and subacute facility for children and adolescents with multiple medical, physical and developmental delays.
As a father myself, it felt great to support such a great cause for these children, who on a daily basis deal with struggles no child should have to bear. The event was put on by Soldiers for Jesus at the Biggs Harley- Davidson in San Diego. Soldiers for Jesus is a great international motorcycle club and brotherhood of Christian bikers. With so many motorcycle groups in the country, it was great to meet and be involved with a group that provides Christian bikers a place to ride in within a community of faith.
Bringing my show out there was so much fun, as I got to have a host of great guests on the show. Terrell Fletcher, the great former San Diego running back, joined us for a segment where we enjoyed a great conversation reminiscing on our playing days, especially when we lined up across from each other when I was an Atlanta Falcon. We also brought Russ McGinnis on, the former Kansas City Royal and Texas Ranger from the 90’s. We had a great time talking baseball and our journey through the minor and major leagues. Later, we welcomed Gary Lee Ernst, lead singer of the San Diego-based hard rock band In The Midst 777, who talked about his journey from addiction and prison to a new life in Christ. They rocked some great sets for the crowd, who also enjoyed a Bar-B- Que, arm wrestling contest, a great display of Harley's, and lots of great local vendors.
We also had Trisha Grant on, the representative for the Helen Bernardy Center for Medically Fragile Children, who talked about what the organization is doing to support these precious children, and spread awareness of the challenges they face. I’m excited to see them progress and make a difference in the lives of the children.
Altogether, the event raised over $4000 for their organization! I’m always very excited to support such great causes and look forward to doing more in the future! I’m so grateful to have the platform I do to be able to contribute what I can to make the world a better, more hopeful place.
